The Birth

Marmaduke’s Emporium is the brainchild of Richard M. Collier C.Eng MIET and was finally established in 2013 after decades of collecting and a lack of realistic alternatives.

It is a business but we just love the business, the people you meet; the friends we’ve made and the places you go. You can talk incessantly about your passions, it’s the most effective mischief avoidance scheme we know! You will hopefully appreciate from the website a slightly whimsical tone at times but don’t let that fool you, we take the business very seriously and your satisfaction is guaranteed!

The Gear

Our aim is to stock beautiful items in good condition at affordable prices.

The emphasis is on pots, burnt earth from English manufacturers from 1750 to 1950. There will always be Coalport and Caughley, obviously but I always try and have a range of Worcester, Moorcroft, Beswick, Doulton, Pilkington, Ruskin, Shelley, Minton, Copeland etc.

In addition, pretty pieces of silver, silver plate, treen and antique advertising pieces. We also stock interesting pictures and prints.

Private Passions!

I’m still a collector and will die a collector, can’t help it and I won’t apologise for it.

I’m a Proud Salopian and that’s what I collect, items that relate to the most beautiful and historic county of Shropshire.

There are the pots from Coalport and Caughley but also Art Pottery from the likes of Maw & Co., and the Salopian Art Pottery.

There’s also the Antique Advertising that started with old bottles but soon expanded to almost anything that would have ended up in your local grocers or pub in the Victorian and Edwardian periods.

Then there’s everything else that takes my fancy, mostly books, photographs and pictures.

If you would like to know more, please visit Marmaduke’s Private Passions.
